Allen Elementary School held a celebration today after being named a National Blue Ribbon School.
The event, attended by all students, staff, school parents and invited VIP guests, featured musical performances, introductions of student speech contest winners and an overview of the National Blue Ribbon School program.
The event culminated with the official presentation of the Blue Ribbon School flag and plaque presented last November to Allen School representatives in Washington, D.C.
Allen School was among 304 nationwide winners - including four from Orange County - named for the Blue Ribbon award last fall as announced by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan.
The Blue Ribbon program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, recognizes schools that are either academically superior or demonstrate dramatic gains in student performance while narrowing gaps in achievement especially among disadvantaged and minority students.
Allen School, part of the Garden Grove Unified School District, met both standards for the Blue Ribbon award.

April 5 Gisler Elementary School's Kindergarten Round-up is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 5. Parents with a child entering kindergarten in the fall for the 2012-2013 school year are invited to attend. Children need to turn 5 on or before November 1, 2012 to begin Kindergarten in the Fall. Please contact the school office at 714-378-4211 with any questions.
April 19 Courreges Elementary School's Kindergarten Round-up is set for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19. Parents with a child entering kindergarten in the fall (2012-2013 school year) are invited to attend. All incoming kindergartners for the 2012-2013 school year must be 5 years old on or before Nov. 1.
